Generator Fault Finding
Generator Overheating
Common generator overheating causes.

Diagnosis matters
What may be causing the fault?
Cooling-system faults, blocked airflow, coolant issues, radiator restrictions, fan problems, excessive load and engine problems can contribute to overheating.
Generator systems combine engine, fuel, electrical generation, control and protection systems. A symptom alone does not identify the failed component. Testing the relevant circuits and operating conditions is the safer way to determine the repair.
What a technician may check
- Battery and starting system
- Fuel supply and fuel-system components
- Engine protection and shutdown signals
- Control panel and fault indications
- Alternator and AVR circuits
- Output voltage and frequency
- Cooling and mechanical condition where relevant
